A Yarn Dying Experiment

10:17 AM

About a month ago I went to a crafting afternoon to the friend of a friends house.  She is like the uber crafty mom.  She showed us how to dye yarn with kool-aid.  And so for the last month I have wanted to experiment.

I pretty much followed what she said to do and while what turned out was not what I had envisioned, I love the tie-dyed effect the yarn has.

Dye Your Yarn has some great formulas to follow for some pretty cool colors.  I used ice blue lemon aid, black cherry, strawberry, and lemon aid.  I tried to follow the chart from the website, but came up with some other interesting colors.  I found the black cherry kool aid to be the strongest (and perhaps a bit overpowering) color so I am glad there is still some white showing.

I had envisioned a blue, green and yellow yarn but when I couldn't find any lemon lime kool aid, my plan changed.  And Corrine voiced her opinion when she wanted "pink" kool aid.  I am going to use this funky, tie-dyed yarn to make a vest for Corrine.

  1. That looks like so much fun! I have been meaning to order some plain yarn so I can try my hand at dyeing, but then I forget so thanks for the reminder.
Your yarn will make a great vest for Miss Corrine.
