Random Thoughts on Thursday

Back in May, Bryan bought us tickets to see The Breakfast Club for our anniversary.  Every summer the Denver Film Society does Film on the Rocks.  Red Rocks is an amazing outdoor amphitheater on the west side of Denver.   My pictures don't do it justice.  At all.  It is simply stunning.  There is nothing like sitting at the top of the amphitheater and watching the moon come up and the city lights while listening to your favorite bands!  We actually had VIP seats for the movie so we were up close. Good for me to see the movie, but bad to watch the sights!

They also allow exercising there during the day.  People actually go there to "run" the stairs.   It's a great workout!  My legs were sore today and I couldn't figure out why until Bryan mention all the walking and stairs we did.   If you ever come to Colorado a trip to Red Rocks is a "must do".

Happy Thursday!

Knitting This Week

It's Wednesday again and that means it is time for the weekly yarn along.  I'm joining with Ginny and everyone to share yarn and books.  I have worked a little bit on a lot of projects.  This project is a crochet project.  It is a scrap yarn basketweave baby blanket for a cousin who is due in October. The pattern is really simple.  Three strands of yarn (any size) and a size P crochet hook.   Change colors when you run out of yarn.  It uses  A LOT of yarn.  I'm hoping to use all of my baby yarn scraps.

I have worked on my Hitofude and my KAL Stitch Block Cowl (that I"m the only one still knitting in our group).  I have also worked on another washcloth for a baby that is also coming in October.   And while on a layover last week I worked on a square for a scrap yarn blanket.  I always have yarn in my tote bag just in case.
I just finished Patterns in the Sand by Sally Goldenbaum.  I really liked it.  It's a knitting mystery series that takes place by Gloucester, Massachusetts.  This book is actually the second in the series.  I've broken my cardinal rule to read series books in order.  What I really like about this book is that up until the end I had no idea whodunit.  To me that makes it a good book.  I had an idea whodunit, but I was wrong!  If anyone wants to read it, let me know, I'll send it to you.  It was a thrift store book but it's in good shape.  I've just started reading Point Blank, so no opinion yet.

The Weekend

This was one one of those weird weekends for us in that we actually had a regular weekend.  Meaning a weekend that everyone and their brother has.  Our weekends are usually Friday and Saturday and we both work on Sunday.

We went to Steamboat Springs on Thursday night to stay with some really good friends.  On Saturday Bryan and his good friend Chris were in the Honey Stinger 50 mile mountain bike race.  They did it as a duo... each rode 25 miles up and down the mountain.  (a little kuh-razy if you ask me).  Bryan rode the second half of the race and it got hot fairly early on which made the ride difficult.

On Friday we hiked for a little bit.  We played in the river and the hot springs run off.  There was also a free concert at the base of the Steamboat Springs ski area.  We ate dinner with great friends.  We had breakfast with the same good friends.

As much as I love to visit and travel, I love to come home to my own nest the very best!

Yarn Along

It is Wednesday again and that means it is time for the weekly yarn along.  I'm joining with Ginny and others to share books and yarn!  I finished the Woobie!  And just in time too!  Baby Willow was born last week.  My ears don't look like the ears in the pictures on the pattern, but I think they turned out ok.   Plus I was pretty impatient to finish so my satin stitched eyes and nose are average at best.  But all in all it was a pretty easy pattern to follow and I think it turned out pretty cute.  Miss C wants one and I told her she was too old for a woobie, but I'd make her something else.  Now to figure what to make.
I started reading Needled To Death by Maggie Sefton.  This is book two in the series of books.  They are stand alone books so you can read one without reading them in order.  I'm just obsessive enough to read them in order.  The books take place in Fort Connor, Colorado and the yarn shop in the books is an actual shop in Fort Collins.  That is one thing that bugs me about these books...the author has changed the names of two town but has left some others towns named unchanged.  It is a fun, quick, mystery read.

Random Thoughts on Thursday

*  I lost my first chicken yesterday.  I've been incredibly lucky in the three years I have had the ladies. I got home yesterday afternoon from running errands all morning (one errand was the feed store) and filled the feeder.  I lifted the nesting box lid to check eggs and there lay Bonnie.  I'm not sure what happened to her.  My guess is something heat related.  It was 95 degrees yesterday and even though I have a fan in there, it was pretty hot.  I thought I would be sad when I lost my first chicken, but while I hope she didn't suffer, I wasn't all that sad.  I don't have any plans to eat any of the ladies and was hoping for some natural attrition as they got older.   It's just weird not seeing her in the chicken run.

*  Two weeks ago our hot water heater bit the dust.  It lived a good long life- it was installed in 1987! We full on do not expect to get even ten years out of our new water heater.   But of course there never is a good time for water heaters (or any appliance) to go out.  It certainly was not in our budget at this time and now we will be doing some scrambling to rearrange our budget.

Happy Thursday my friends.

Knitting This Week

It's Wednesday again and that means it is time for the weekly yarn along.  I'm joining with Ginny and everyone to share books and yarn.  I have worked on several projects in the past couple of weeks.  I have worked on my Stitch Block Cowl, Hitofude, and the little girl Woobie.  Plus I made a washcloth as part of a baby gift.  We took a short little road trip to go on a hut trip and I needed car knitting.  I started (and finished) a very easy washcloth.  I decided that for the baby present due early October, I was going to make a washcloth set and pair it with some bath goodies.

I am currently reading Whitethorn Woods by Maeve Binchy.  I love the way Binchy creates a story.  I feel as if I know all of the characters and they are good friends.  I think this is the last book of hers that I haven't read yet.  I'm a little sad that there will be no more books (she passed away in July 2012).

Outside the town of Rossmore in Whitethorn Woods there is a well that people pray to for various reasons.  There is talk of a road bypass that will go through the woods.  Half the town wants the bypass and the other half doesn't.  That is the premise of the book, but then each chapter is written about different characters that make up the town.
