Yarn Along

6:00 AM

It's Wednesday again and that means it is time for the weekly yarn along.  I'm joining with Ginny and everyone to share yarn and books.  It's been slow go on my two at a time toe up socks, but only because I put them aside for a moment to crank out an Aviatrix for the mom of one of C's school friends.  She had a baby on Saturday and really liked the Aviatrix I made for the school fundraiser.  I'm making this one in Paton's Silk Bamboo in the Sapphire colorway. (I should have taken a picture during the day in the sunlight to get a better color picture).  I like the silk bamboo yarn because it is a little on the stretchy side so the baby will be able to wear it a little longer.  C can still wear hers!

I had to order some more royal purple Cascade 220 for the woven scarf I'm working on so for the moment that project is put aside as well.

I am still reading Sue Monk Kidd's The Invention of Wings.  Fabulous book.  The book starts in the early 1800's in Charleston and follows Hetty "Handful" and Sarah through the years.  The chapters go back and forth on the two girls lives starting when Sarah is given Hetty for her 11th birthday.  I had a hard time putting it down yesterday and had hoped to get it finished.  Read it if you get the chance!
Also, a friend from high school has written a book!  Las Hechizadas is available for the kindle on Amazon for $.99!  I haven't read it yet but have purchased and downloaded it and am excited to read it as soon as I finish my library ebook!

This is the synopsis from Amazon...
When Juan Romero decides to visit his Abuela in Aguas Puras he doesn't realize the magical healing powers that exist in the high mountain valley. His journey to reconnect with his family's past transforms his life and the lives of generations to follow. He becomes involved in a battle to save the valley from a multinational mining company and the struggle threatens to destroy "Las Hechizadas," or healing women, and their way of life. Twenty years later his sister, Silvia, makes her way from the U.S. to again discover the secrets of her family's past, but in contrast to her brother what she learns finally sets the universe straight and the women of the valley are once again in balance. Anne Garcia weaves her own experiences of living in South America into this magical novel that connects us all to the extraordinary women of the valley of Aguas Puras.

Happy Yarn Along Wednesday!

  3. Cascade 220 is such a nice reliable yarn, isn't it? I love that it comes in pretty much any color you could ever want. Of course silk/bamboo is pretty much the most wonderful thing to knit with.
